The carrier must provide “some containment” of Russia in the Mediterranean, writes the newspaper the Wall Street Journal, citing military sources. The transfer of Harry Truman in spite of command-based is supposed to force Moscow “to think twice”.

“This is, first and foremost, to demonstrate “flexibility and coverage of the Navy of the United States” – emphasizes the publication.

In turn, the American Admiral Brett Batchelder noted that the transition of an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean sea through the Suez canal will show the NATO partners that the United States is committed to maintaining the balance of naval power in the region. However, he stressed that “it is a visual representation of what we can do.

The publication notes that Harry Truman is subordinate to the European command of the armed forces of the United States. It will be used for strikes on terrorists in Iraq and Syria. Soon it can join another aircraft carrier – Dwight Eisenhower.

On the eve of the British media with fanfare announced that the Royal Navy frigate HMS Kent with NATO allies was “caught” in the North sea the Russian submarine “Stary Oskol”. In the defense Ministry, the news commented with a grin, noting the “merits” of Britons in search of the submarine, which was on the surface at low speed, accompanied by the tug and no one is hiding.
