The painting “On the edge of a pine forest,” which Ivan Shishkin painted a year before his death, was sold at Sotheby’s for two million dollars. The name of the winner of the auction is not known. But we know that for the coveted item in the final part of the auction traded four buyers.
Landscape with fields in the vicinity of Yelabuga Shishkin wrote the memories from the last trip to his native land. The artist rejected the proposal of the Emperor Nicholas II, wishing to buy the painting for his personal collection. But sold it to his nephew Nicholas Staheeva. It is important that the work never appeared on the market.
