Maria Zakharova have quoted a few excerpts from an interview with former Secretary of state Henry Kissinger, in which he touched upon the NATO expansion to the East. With the help of these quotations it responded to the recent statement by former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul about the need to give a “concrete answer” Russia.
Official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said in his Facebook on a statement of former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul about the fact that NATO is forced to respond to threats from Russia and that “the United States should, in accordance with the needs to curb Russia and meet her.”
Zakharov also noted that McFaul said that if not given the promises not to expand NATO to the East.
However, she recalled a recent interview with Henry Kissinger’s “International review”, where he said that the illusion (the threat of Russia – ed.) should not justify the expansion of NATO to the East.
