The sharks found the signs of identity

The sharks that live in the Bay area of Port Jackson, Australian scientists from Macquarie University have found signs of individuality. That these animals are, to some extent, have features of personality, says the fact that different individuals have different preferences, and each of them remains true to herself in different situations.

According to experts, in recent time, certain traits of personality have already been discovered more than 200 different species of animals, so man in this regard is less unique than it was assumed in the past. To see this, zoologists have conducted two series of experiments with the sharks, the existence of at least some individuality in the environment of which scientists did not suspect until recently.

During one of the two experiments, the scientists put the shark in a tank of water from which they could swim into the vast, but unfamiliar space, and then watched, how long will it take the shark to have the courage to sail toward the unknown. In another experiment, the sharks were subjected to stress similar to that which is caught on a fish hook, and watched, quickly after this the animal will come around. Both repeating the experiment over and over again, researchers are convinced that “daring” sea obitateli remained bold in each experiment, and more cautious, in turn, did not hurry to act, and during re-testing. Also consistent in their actions were and to a different degree stress the sharks. It is this consistency in their differences is evidence of the elements of personality in fish, scientists say.

Experts presented the results of their research in the pages of scientific publications Journal of Fish Biology.

Despite reports of many media that the signs of the person at sharks scientists have discovered for the first time, really in the past already carried out at least one such study. More than half a ago, experts from Exeter University, the Marine biological Association of Velikobritanii and several other British scientific organizations have found that among these underwater predators have their “extroverts” and “introverts”. As research indicated, is shown by fine spotty some cat sharks are trying to establish the maximum number of social ties with relatives and avoid the loneliness, while others, on the contrary, prefer to be outside, in the hope that it will help them better camouflage. At the same time, getting into new habitats, each shark remained faithful to the originally chosen strategy of behavior.
