On the background of Putin’s visit to Italy, the Ukrainian Prime Minister Yatsenyuk accused Russia of seeking to split the EU. Kiev fears – or rather Washington – not in vain. But the problem is not that Russia divides the EU. In Europe only outrage is growing pressure from the United States as a whole and not only on the Russian theme.
A word about the fact that “the United States will get us into a crusade against Russia, which is contrary to the interests of Europe,” increasingly heard from the lips of European politicians. This time they said the former French Prime Minister Francois Fillon.
“Most of the French elite in favour of active opposition to the American dictatorship and the return to Paris of his own voice in world Affairs”
Such words speak many former European leaders – for example, a retired German chancellors or Italian premieres – but Fillon is not a pensioner, who can easily afford to be honest. He is one of the leaders of the right “Union for a popular movement, recently renamed to “Republicans”, and contender for the party nomination in the presidential elections of 2017. His candor is quite revealing.
“Today, Europe lost its independence. The United States involve us in a crusade against Russia, which contradicts the interests of Europe. The United States put pressure on Germany, so Germany lost to Greece with the aim to find a compromise on Greece. German intelligence has been spying on France, but even in the interests of Germany, and in the interests of the United States,” said Fillon, adding that American justice is constantly interfering in the work of the judiciary of the European countries and the middle East, the United States pursues policies that are contrary to the interests of Europe and represents for her a great danger, but the European countries are forced to agree with her.
The former Prime Minister also said that he strongly opposed the conclusion of an agreement between the EU and the USA on the Transatlantic trade and investment partnership (TTIP) “in the form in which it is now.”
As can be seen, Russia in this list only one of the points, in which Fillon has a claim to the United States. That is, the problem is not that Fillon is Pro-Russian (it is not, although the French Atlanticist press portrays it that way, especially stressing his good relations with Putin), but the fact that French politicians really are concerned that their country is increasingly losing sovereignty. This is not just due to European integration, but also due to the use of US-EU institutions to strengthen their positions in the Old World. European integration has not become a Union of all around Germany, which feared including in France – it leads to the fact that after the NATO Anglo-Saxons are preparing Europe Atlantic another harness, this time economic.
The transatlantic trade partnership, the signing of which was discussed at the summit “the seven”, can be, and will not be able to get through before the end of this year (as he wanted the Americans), but its adoption has become a major concern for Washington in Europe. The Europeans have too many questions to this agreement, and that they are less than they were asking, you need to escalate the “Russian threat”: all doubts in the face of such terrible danger. To accelerate with the signing of the agreement is necessary also because the next elections in the European countries can substantially weaken the position of the Atlanticist forces, and then to push the TTIP would be impossible.
Therefore, the maintenance of a United front against Russia has a very practical value – it needs to stretch until the ratification of the TTIP. It is clear that European elites understand this simple combination, and those who opposed the cold war with Russia and the jurisdiction of the United States (and even more precisely – to the global corporations under the Anglo-Saxon conducting) will be louder to Express their outrage. The attitude towards the blockade of Russia becomes therefore a kind of litmus test.
President Hollande has virtually no chance of being reelected in 2017 – the colorless and unpopular head of state in modern French history deprives of chances to win and any of the party of socialists. Hollande hesitated with the “Mistral”, but eventually yielded to the US pressure, confirming their lack of independence. His main opponent is now considered Nicolas Sarkozy, but his revenge is not guaranteed, especially given the huge anti-rating of the former President (above it only has Hollande).
The most popular politician in France marine Le Pen (she is steadily gaining the most votes in the first round) – cannot yet win in the second: together against her, and the so-called right and left. But the front national progresses on the left site – so over time, to stop Le Pen on the way to the Elysee Palace will be impossible. But not in 2017 at least Sarkozy is trying hard to seem great patriot than Marin. This applies mainly to political subjects, but does not stand aside and Russia.
If Le Pen can be called the most sympathetic of Russia and of France politician is simultaneously the most anti-Atlantic, Sarkozy has earned a reputation as Atlanticist, trying to show that he, too, advocates the development of relations with Moscow. Sarkozy spoke in favor of the transfer of Russia “Mistela”, condemned Hollande for refusing to attend the Victory parade in Moscow, thus earning points on the background of a weak-willed President.
And if personal mimicry Sarkozy cannot be trusted, there is no doubt that he is compelled to take into account the mood of French society, which is not set on conflict and rapprochement with Russia. Furthermore, an increasing part of the elite in favour of active opposition to the American diktat and the return of France to its voice in world Affairs.
It’s like a whole system people like former presidents valéry Giscard d’estaing and Jacques Chirac or one of the founders of the socialist party Jean-Pierre Chevenement, and the popular anti-systemic (in terms of the current French elite) politicians such as Le Pen and leader of the leftist Jean-Luc Mélenchon. They all criticize the US and protesting the fact that Mélenchon called “rampant anti-Russian propaganda” and “the demonization of Vladimir Putin”.
Anti-American statements by françois Fillon, add to them one more respectable name, despite the fact that among the Republicans he opposes Sarkozy also forced to flirt with the Russophile sentiments of the electorate. The Republican leadership only former Prime Minister Alain Juppe, able to compete with Sarkozy for the presidential nomination, advocated the punishment of Russia and the refusal of the transfer of “Mistral” (despite the fact that it Juppe, as Minister of defence, signed in 2011 by Igor Sechin, the agreement about their construction).
How France will vote in 2017, to the extent controlled by the Anglo-Saxons remain the process of European integration, and given growing anti-American sentiment here (and the exact same process is happening in Germany), to ensure the loyalty of Paris will be very difficult.
Moscow is interested in the fact that in France, as in other European countries, quickly has been a shift in the direction of defend their own national interests – through a change of powers, change in the balance of power in the elites. Russia has no need to campaign particularly hard the same French “friendship” – we just need that they do not interfere to build an independent foreign policy (we can’t help them to gain independence, but the Americans as excessive pressure doing everything in order to cause a reaction). And the fact that cooperation with Russia is in their interest, they know better than ours.Related posts:
