Help “MK”. Today in France, the Center of national monuments is the main Manager of historic sites, open to the public. Some of them are among the most prestigious attractions: the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel, the castles of Angers and Azay-Le-Rideau, arc de Triomphe… the mission of the center is to emphasize the importance of cultural attractions to increase attendance through events and to provide a decent quality of reception.

– A distrust to our decision: that cultural monuments can not be linked with tourism, ” says Mr. Belaval. – To think so is misleading because tourism has always supported the culture. At these words, even the root one, indicating that the related concepts. One of the main motivations of travelers to see the monuments. But the purpose of the agreement is not only to acquaint the residents of our countries cultural heritage, but also in the strengthening of friendly relations between Russia and France.

Director of cultural development at the Centre of national monuments of Edward de Lumley explained, on what basis were selected monuments-twin cities: “They look like at creation time, history and architectural style. But it was hard to choose, because in France and in Russia, a lot of cultural heritage, perhaps, as in any other countries. We started with four French and Russian monuments, but soon they were joined by another. If the agreement was limited to signing contracts, it would be possible to attract more platforms, and we have a lot of cooperation.”

In June will start reciprocal visits of Directors of heritage sites, where will discuss all the nuances of the cultural and scientific work. Agree on joint activities (e.g., exhibitions), will discuss the ways of promotion of the monuments of sister cities, will hold seminars and conferences for exchange of experience, including in the field of restoration and proper storage of exhibits.

– From Tolstoy have survived 3000 items first of all talk about him as a person, ” says the Director of the Museum of Leo Tolstoy in Khamovniki Sergei Archangels. – Thanks to them we know that every morning the writer was pumping water, chopping wood, and he carried them for nine furnaces. In detail we want to know about the house and George sand to speak of it lovingly as the Tolstoy house. When we received the offer on cooperation, the Museum was excited. Twinning in the Russian language means relationship. We become a family and this places a special responsibility on us.

Most of all signing of the agreement was delighted the Museum’s Director Melnikov Pavel Kuznetsov, after all, his Playground was opened just two years ago: “We are pleased to promote the name of Melnikov in France as well as Le Corbusier in Russia. However, as it turned out from our point of opinion polls, the French architect in Russia know more than the Russian master. Will try to open Le Corbusier and Melnikov the General public.”
