The United States developed a supergun for the protection of the Baltic sea from Russia

In the United States developed a new type of super – powerful electromagnetic rail gun ER (Electromagnetic Railgun). It is expected that after the completion of such guns can be placed as deck artillery warships of the U.S. Navy. If necessary with the help of this weapon the US intends to defend the Baltic States from the threat allegedly posed by Russia.

On a top-secret naval base military engineers the United States have demonstrated a deadly new supergun capable of firing 25-pound projectile through the seven steel plates and leave them in a 5 inch hole. This weapon is a railgun, a cannon that firing needs no powder, no explosives. A special projectile is accelerated by electromagnetic fields to a stunning speed. According to The Wall Street Journal, with the help of these weapons, the United States intends to give response to the military buildup of Russia and China.

The report said that the projectile in the gun accelerates to such a speed of 4,500 miles per hour or more than a mile a second.

In addition to containment of Russia on the Baltic States military the United States said that the railgun could be used to support the allies against China in the South China sea. In the article quoted first Deputy Minister of defense Robert Wark about the fact that Russia has the capability of firing ammunition of a large mass to great distances, so you need to be able to counter such salvoes.

Program to create ER began in the United States 10 years ago and it spent half a billion dollars. Now it is planned to spend another $ 800 million to turn a rail gun in a protective kind of weapons and shells make it suitable for carrier-based artillery of the American ships.
