Studying the relationship between stress and accelerated aging, a group of researchers from Indiana University were able to determine the list of substances on the basis of which could be created by life-prolonging drug. These substances can affect the gene plays in the aging process one of the key roles.
It is well known that numerous stress sometimes lead to the fact that a person begins to look older than their years, however, scientists were able to learn more about the genetic nature of such relationship. Conducting experiments on round worms of the species Caenorhabditis elegans, and studies involving people, experts have identified a group of genes that play a role in how the life expectancy reflect the change of moods and a stressful situation. Scientists were able to detect the connection 334 of the human gene in such processes, however, according to them, a key influence on longevity has a gene called ANK3.
In the study, with conventional and genetically modified nematodes, and study of the data on approximately 347 mentally healthy people, and approximately 700 people with psychological problems, including suicides, it was found that stress and some mental illnesses have an impact on the activity of some genes including ANK3. This, in turn, can lead to accelerated aging and reduced life expectancy. Enhanced expresse this gene was humans, at the genetic level are prone to accelerated aging.
The researchers also claim that it is theoretically possible to develop a drug that normalize the gene ANK3, which would help to prolong human life and to protect them from some of the effects of stress. The number of components of such tools may be, including, vitamin D, docosahexaenoic acid, estrogen-like compounds and so on.
