“His Majesty,” Rahmon: residents of Tajikistan approved the lifelong presidency, “leader of the nation”

In the referendum for the amendments to the Constitution that took place in Tajikistan last Sunday, voted 92% of the citizens (4 million 38 thousand 138 persons), informs “Interfax” with reference to the local election Commission. The main innovation was the solution to the current head of the country Emomali Rahmon to rule her life.

Article 65 of the Constitution prohibits presidents to hold office for more than two consecutive terms. Adopted at the referendum, the amendments do not change it, but make an exception for one person — actually Rahmon. While by name it is not called: mentioned only his title: “the Founder of peace and national unity — the leader of the nation”.

For the opportunity of a life presidency Rakhmon voted 94.5 per cent came to the land, while against were just 3.3%.

Also supported was and other changes in the Basic law (now it will be called only by the Constitution): they, in particular, allowed to run for President for 5 years before now: not with 35 and 30 years. All analysts unanimously say that the amendments are adopted under the son of Rahmon — Pilasters, and, in fact, administered the country’s monarchy. Recall that Rahmon is a senior leads the state with 1992.

Let us add that the country has long established a formal appeal to the Rahmon “janobi Oli”, which translates as “his Majesty”.

Planck reduced the age limit for deputies and for judges of the constitutional, Supreme and Economic courts: also at 5 years — 30.

Note that the amendments introduce another important innovation: the prohibition to be elected to the highest, including a Deputy, positions, people with dual citizenship. Given that most opponents of Rahmon does not live in the country for fear of persecution, and, as a rule, have a second citizenship, analysts state that the amendment also aimed to strengthen his power.

The next elections in Tajikistan should take place in 2020.
