NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the organization will strengthen the Eastern flank. He told about it in interview “Radio Poland” on the eve of the NATO summit on 8-9 July in Warsaw.
“Strengthening the Eastern flank of NATO is a response to new challenges facing the Alliance, including, on the aggressive policy of Russia… It is only one element of our strategy of defence and deterrence”, — said Jens Stoltenberg.
The multinational force will cooperate with the army of the country where they will be sent, said the Secretary General of NATO, stressing that the strengthening of the Eastern flank is not provoking an armed conflict, reports RIA Novosti.
“The July NATO summit will be a turning point, we need to make some key decisions about how to adapt to the new situation in the security sphere. It is necessary to strengthen the Alliance’s presence in Eastern Europe… We will give a clear signal that an attack on one country is an attack on the whole NATO,” said Stoltenberg on the eve.
Earlier, NATO has repeatedly stated about threats from Russia, explaining this circumstance, a significant increase in forces in Eastern Europe. However, Stoltenberg stressed that he does not see immediate threat to members of NATO and said the Alliance does not seek a new cold war.”
