“The last summer beer bottle” – so already oharkterizovala in social networks the offers of the government of Russia on the gradual ban of production and sale of alcoholic beverages in plastic containers. Plastic beer bottles are a hot commodity because it allows beer lovers to save and to take products to the countryside and places of recreation without having to worry about safety – because unlike glass, plastic bottles do not break.

At the same time experts believe that the sale of alcohol in such bulk containers contributes to the abuse of alcohol, as psychologically a person believes that buying only one bottle, whereas in fact such plastic bottles – three bottles of 0.5 liters, which are usually realized in the glass.

The first bill was prepared by deputies of the State Duma M. V. Tarasenko, R. V. Karmazin and others and adopted by the lower chamber on first reading on June 10, 2014. Now the Finance Ministry has prepared amendments, which include a phased ban on the production, trafficking and retail sale of alcohol in consumer packaging or packaging made entirely of polyethylene, polystyrene and other similar materials.

The amendment proposes to prohibit from January 2017 the production of alcoholic beverages in the plastic larger than 1.5 liters, and a ban on the retail sale of such products to introduce from 1 July 2017.

In addition, the proposed amendments to amend the Code of administrative offences regarding the imposition of an administrative fine for violations of the prohibitions.
