Borscheva set risen twice

Since the beginning of the year inflation rose by 2.8%. Note that in the same period of 2015 it was 8.3%. Significant positive difference. If everything will go further in the same vein, the forecast of economic development of 6% at year-end does not seem as a distant dream. However, the consumer has a reason to be upset. Products have risen in price and decent. According to Rosstat, with the beginning of the year cabbage rose in price by 37%, carrots – by 26.5%, buckwheat – by 15.2%, tea – by 8%. But these figures are very far from a positive 2.8 percent. Let us examine the reasons. As it turned out, each product has its own story.

Traditionally in April and may comes the high price season for vegetables and fruits. As you know, a new crop of more remnants of the old, which, however, also grow in price, because storage costs money. Thus, from the beginning, cabbage rose by 36,9%, carrots – by 26.5%, onion – by 12.7%, potatoes – by 5.1%. Most likely, Rosstat refers to the second bread of the old harvest. But because of its low quality many have switched to potatoes from Egypt, the most affordable price, about 40 rubles per 1 kg. we note that the old roots cost 11-12 rubles. Hence, the rise in price of almost 4 times.

In the list of Rosstat no beet. Will be adding it to borscheva set was complete. In January the Metropolitan store “economy” class, it sold for 15 rubles per 1 kg, now – 24.55. Rose by 63%, even ahead of the cabbage. “MK” has noticed that sometimes in shops well-preserved cabbages harvest throw the old to the young. Beware. And sell, of course, at the same price. Young sprouts in stores middle class is about 40-50 rubles per 1 kg.

Now stay in the same average grade and compare price of January borsch set with may. Cabbage cost 16.90 rubles per 1 kg (now 49.90), beet – 15.90 (24.55), carrots – 19.90 (49.90), onion – 18.90 (25.50), potatoes – 12.50 (39.90). We find that with 84.1 rubles in January vegetables went up to 189.75, which is almost 2.3 times.

Cannot get away from the seasonal price increase. For the same reasons since the beginning of the year to 15.2% of the added apples. But it seems quite inexplicable rise in price of buckwheat in the shops all on the same 15.2%, but analysts say even by 17%.

How so? After all, last year was a record harvest – about 900 thousand tons, which is almost 150 thousand more than in 2014. And this is despite the General need in the rump to 485 thousand a year.

Moreover, alarming news come from the barns of buckwheat in Altai Krai. Most businesses work on the remains of raw materials. Who finds buckwheat, resumes production. No, it stops.

The Chinese are already troubled in the region, offering his rump. But the producers don’t want to mess with the import, but prefer to wait for the new harvest.

The situation is similar in Orel region, ranked second in the country for the production of buckwheat. All local cereal producers have already sold and now taking her from the neighboring regions (where there is a surplus). This additional transportation expenses. Plus the growing demand which boosts prices.

What is the reason for such a deficit? Not all the birds well fed. In conversation with the correspondent “MK” Leonid Kholod, doctor of economic Sciences, which at one time held the post of Deputy Minister of agriculture, commented on the situation. If in the 2014-2015 season carry-over stocks amounted to 89 thousand tons, but now (in 2015-2016) they almost came to naught – 6 thousand. Exports also tried. In the season 2014-2015 he was 26 thousand tons, and in the new cycle (2015-2016) increased to 45 thousand. Yes, buckwheat is in high demand, and our grandmothers love to do stocks.

All these factors led to the fact that since the beginning of the year, wholesale prices for buckwheat increased by 60%, and purchasing and at all 2 times. The expert did not rule out further rise in price of cereals in retail. For those who got used to it, will buy at any price. And if there is demand, there is a “free running” for the price hike.

Growing food inflation (in the background in General is not critical to 2.8%) is primarily painful for the poor who spend almost all their money on food. For wealthy individuals, its growth is less noticeable, because the acquisition of the next “Bentley” can be postponed until better times.
