Poland is not interested in the “cold war” between NATO and Russia, said the head of state Andrzej Duda, and urged the parties to “purposeful dialogue”.
“We need a focused dialogue, in order to reduce the risk of errors, avoid conflicts and increase predictability in our relations”, — said Duda during his visit to Italy.
However, he added that cooperation with Moscow “should not in any way influence” on the agreement within NATO on joint defense. The Polish President believes that the dialogue should be based “on the principles of international law and respect the territorial integrity of all countries,” according to the Polish Agency PAP.
Last week in Poland began the construction of missile defense bases of the United States. Then Andrzej Duda said that such facilities “will strengthen the security of the free world”.
Earlier it was reported that Poland has proposed to strengthen the role of the OSCE in order to prevent dangerous incidents between Russian and Western military. Such a proposal came against the backdrop of a substantial increase in the number of sorties of reconnaissance aircraft of the U.S. air force in the southern part of the Baltic sea in recent years. As a result, American aircraft regularly find themselves in close proximity to Russian borders, causing tensions.
As writes RIA Novosti, citing the words of the permanent representative of Poland to the international organizations in Vienna Адамf Bugaysky, such cases can easily become “a source of unnecessary confrontation”, so we must do everything to reduce risks.
According to the Polish authorities, all OSCE members should accept the obligation to “avoid any action that could lead to dangerous military incidents.” Also Warsaw has proposed the creation of the OSCE special Commission, which will investigate dangerous scenes.
