Traces the fall of a giant asteroid, the likes of which had not occurred in the history of mankind, found in Australia, the group of scientists under the leadership of Andrew Glikson from the Australian National University in Canberra. The meteorite fell to the Ground and 3.46 billion years ago, when our planet was four times younger than today, and it is only recently, the first microorganism
It reminds geologists, who published their study in the journal Precambrian Research, in the early stages of its existence, the Earth like many other planets and satellites in the Solar system, underwent a major “asteroid bombardment”, in which the planet was populated with the water and various chemical compounds, which are subsequently allowed to blossom in the Land of the living. Findings indicate that in the period when the bombing was already over, the Earth collided with an asteroid with a diameter of 20 to 30 kilometers — it is probably the largest of all ever falling to the planet.
Although the moment of impact, the asteroid should have left a crater with a width of several hundred kilometers, to date, to determine the exact place of his fall the experts have not succeeded for such a long period, all the “obvious” consequences of the collision were smoothed volcanic activity and tectonic movement. Nevertheless, indirect evidence of a meteorite scientists managed to find. During the expedition dedicated to the study of ancient sediments at the time of the asteroid bombardment, the experts found between two volcanic layers of small glass beads formed by impact of an asteroid on Earth. Analysis of these beads is allowed to call the time of falling of an asteroid (he was one of the oldest, traces of which managed to find), as well as to suggest what he was size.
Geologists suggest that the asteroid fell and caused a massive earthquake and tsunami, what could happen on the planet due to internal processes and have shifted the rocks and to the surface came the magma.Related posts:
