Children scare any female voice, except the parent

Neuroscientists and psychiatrists, representing Stanford University, conducted a study in which I learned a lot about how a child’s brain responds to maternal voice. According to the researchers, the findings not only allow a deeper study the nature of the relationship between mother and her children, but also can help in the study of the problem of autism

In the course of the study, experts observed how 24 children aged from seven to twelve years, not suffering from any mental disorders, and was listening to the recording, which sounded the voice of their mothers and other unfamiliar young study participants are women, reports gazeta.ru. In all cases, uttered a meaningless sound sets, because the goal of researchers was to find out exactly how children react to the voice, not on specific words. During the experiments, researchers monitored the activity of various parts of children’s brains with functional magnetic resonance imaging.

As it turned out, in addition to the departments directly responsible for the hearing, at the sound of unfamiliar female voices began much more active the amygdala in both hemispheres of the brain, “responsible”, including, of fear and irritation. Parent voice increased activity in the nucleus accumbens of the so-called pleasure centers in the limbic cortex, and orbitofrontal cortex in the frontal lobes, which is involved in adjusting the behavior depending on the expected rewards or punishment.

Their work, scientists reported in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

A person’s ability to recognize other people’s voices quite closely connected with that, is he predisposed to autistic spectrum disorders, so the aim of the study was a closer examination of the problem of autism. To date, the answer, whether the child suffers from autism, experts can only after he turns a year and a half. Thus, according to the researchers, the sooner you become aware of this disorder, the higher the chance effectively to help the child with socialization.
