The international space station is operated from 20 November 1998 to this day was put into the orbit of the first station element, the Russian functional cargo block “Zarya”.

The ISS is an international research project involving Russia, the USA and Japan, Canada and ten countries belonging to the European space Agency: Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, France, Sweden and Switzerland. Since 2000 the station are constantly cosmonauts and astronauts, at the same time work on Board for up to six people. During the stay of the station in orbit it had visited more than 45 long-term crews

To date, the international space station consists of 15 modules target destination, the total weight of which is more than 400 tons — thus, the ISS represents the largest collected by a man in Earth orbit engineering design. The average altitude of the station is about 400 kilometers above the Earth. For each complete revolution around the planet from the station takes about an hour and a half.

The other day the window of the ISS was damaged by space debris, however, as reported aboard station astronaut Timothy Peake, the ISS is equipped with good protection system and neither the crew nor the equipment of the station is not in danger.
