Raising the retirement age: first officials, then – the rest

On Wednesday the state Duma in the third final reading passed a bill to raise the retirement age for officials at all levels. Novovedenie will come into force from 1 January 2017. Gradually for men limit raised to 65 and for women to 63 years. However, experts believe that the servants of the people not long will go to exercise their rights in relation to the rest of the population. The decision to raise the retirement age for all will not take long. This can happen immediately after the fall elections.

Interviewed by “MK” experts still see this future for Russians more disadvantages.

Love Khrapylina, Professor of the Department of labour and social policy, Institute of public service and administration:

“Yes, on the one hand, the current seniors have a good work hardening. According to statistics, 30% of the population aged 60-70 years and continues to be active. On the other, now in the country crisis, companies cut jobs and the first to fall under the dismissal is retired. Where will be able to get these people, and, most importantly, what they will live, if visrect retirement will increase? I’m afraid that in this case we will get more numbers of the poor and the burden on social services, because all these people come for the Dole”.

Yuri Gorlin, Deputy Director of the Institute for social analysis and forecasting Ranhigs:

“There is a feeling that in a topical issue of raising the retirement age officials just decided to start with yourself, so to speak, to set an example. The economic effect that this is unlikely to be impressive. According to the labor Ministry, Russia has about 1.1 million employees at various levels. However, if you raise the question about whether it is necessary to raise the retirement age for all other Russians? I will say, it is necessary. But innovation must be carefully prepared. Now I’m the kind of training, unfortunately, do not see. After all the changes in the pension sector will immediately affect the labour market and the financial well-being of Russians. Increase the number of poor people, because there will be those who simultaneously receives a salary and a pension. Also, there are questions and to the age of retirement. For men in strap is 65 and for women 63 years. That is, for men working experience is increased by 5 years, and for women for 8 years to date. While the average man in average after retirement she now lives 16 years (to 76 years), the average woman almost ten years longer — to 81 years. Thus the imbalance: a woman might still work, but send her on a holiday, and the man already hard, but he is forced to work. Here it is necessary to do 63 years, or equal to 65 years.”
