Devoting a lot of time computer games children and adolescents may experience sleep disorders, weight gain and even problems with the cardiovascular system. About the dangers threatening the health of young gamers, said canadian researchers from McMaster University.
In the study, researchers interviewed 94 teenagers aged 10 to 17 years who participated in programs on weight reduction or normalization of metabolism. Many of these children actively playing computer games. The experts tried to answer the question, does the children’s desire to play computer on their lifestyle and health.
As the researchers found, children who had dedicated a lot of time computer games, slept on average almost one-third less than others. The researchers suspect that the relationship between this fact and the fact that the children-gamers had higher blood pressure and lower insulin sensitivity. This, in turn, has led to problems when trying to get rid of excess weight, and also increase the propensity to cardiovascular diseases.
Experts acknowledge that the sample of children whose information they collected, was quite specific. However, they claim that their data are forced to treat computer games more cautiously. “Excessive computer game in some children and adolescents in its manifestations resembles an addiction. While youth is a vulnerable population,” says Kathryn Morrison, one of the study’s authors.
