“To call a spade a spade”: Poroshenko asked to rename Russia in the Katsap


Ukrainians gather votes for the renaming of Russian Katsap. Related petition appeared on the official website of the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

“Use in all documents the name is Katsap “Russian Federation”. Need to call a spade a spade,” — said in the text of the appeal. While this idea was supported by only eight people.

To file a petition on the website of the President of Ukraine can be anyone. So, at the end of April Petro Poroshenko has offered to redo all the Russian names into Ukrainian lad in the framework of the law on decommunization. The intention of the activists, Ivanov should be Ivanenko, Petrov — Petrenko, and so on.

In late March the President was asked to rename the Ukraine in Kiev Rus. The authors of the document insisted that the name “Rus” and its derivative “Russia”,” are the historical names of Ukraine”.

In addition, in February it became known that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine included into the agenda a bill that prohibits the name “Russia” in relation to the Russian Federation and introduces instead the name “Muscovy”.

In order to get on the table for Petro Poroshenko, three months of a petition shall sign 25 thousand people, which, however, does not guarantee compulsory approval. Contained in the petitions of the proposal are considered from the point of view of legitimacy and feasibility of their implementation.
