Officials threatened with criminal cases for the use of messengers


On Tuesday 10 may, the Minister of communications and mass media of Russia Nikolai Nikiforov gave an explanation on the use by Russian officials of various programs for the exchange of information. He warned that conduct the official correspondence it is impossible, it will be considered as violation of instructions and in some cases can even result in criminal proceedings.

The Minister of the Russian Federation Nikolai Nikiforov said on Tuesday that he would like to warn fellow employees that cannot be used for the purpose of execution of official duties existing a messaging platform, reports “Interfax”.

According to him, in spite of the declared safe data transfer protocols and encryption, transferred via instant messengers data are regarded as public.

The Minister noted that these messengers service information and other types of restricted information can not propagate. He stressed that this would be a violation of official instructions, and if it involves disclosure of state secrets – and the reason for the initiation of the criminal case.
