The first student nanosatellite SamSat-218, launched during first launch from the new Vostochny space centre, according to one, does not communicate, on the other – gives only fragmentary signals. This unit was perhaps the least valuable of the three started on April 28. What will be his fate?

“On April 28 during the launch from the Vostochny cosmodrome was launched the nanosatellite SamSat-218D, created by graduate students of the interuniversity Department of space research. On the nanosatellite includes a radio beacon that transmits Morse code at the word SamSat-218D. At the moment of nanosatellite received sketchy signals in the Morse code on the background noise during the passage of the satellite above the receiving station. Now developers SamSat-218D analyze the incoming information, to understand the nature of problems and ways to solve it”.
That is, the problem is, but what is its magnitude and what is its cause, yet to be determined.
Prior to that, the TASS source in the rocket and space industry reported that SamSat-218 was never released on bond. “Spacecraft since the launch of the can’t communicate, it is most likely that after the launch he was not involved”, – he noted.
SamSat-218 (formerly known as “Contact-Nanosatellite”) is the first student nanosatellite, created by SSAU jointly with specialists of the RCC “Progress” for development of algorithms for control of machines of this class.
Also with the help of scientists of SSAU nanosatellite was going to control the processes taking place on Board, from a mobile device connected to the mobile satellite communications system GlobalStar. The authors of the experiment planned to “call” on Board with the mobile terminal and to receive the necessary telemetry information on the status of the flight.
This wonder weighs only about 1.5 kg. But this is nothing strange. Because the nano-satellites are called space vehicles with a mass up to 10 kg. the First Russian nanosatellite was launched back in 2005.
We will add that SamSat-218D was one of three vehicles running during the first launch from the Vostochny spaceport. Also in orbit were withdrawn created by SSAU and the RCC “Progress” satellite remote sensing AIST-2D” and developed in Moscow state University “Mikhail Lomonosov”. According to TASS, on Monday must pass a joint meeting of representatives of SSAU and the RCC “Progress”, created SamSat-218D. The meeting will discuss the problem and the feasibility of further attempts to solve it.

Specifically about problems with SamSat-218D specialist is not known. But the mere fact that the device is not a serial build, created by students and teachers of the University, inexpensive, has a mainly educational purpose, already tells about its lesser value in comparison with other “big” satellites.

But the emphasis was on successful start, first of all, the booster, the testing of all systems at the launch site, the test launch pad”, – he explained.
With regard to undergraduate and graduate students of SSAU, for them, even the unsuccessful conclusion of the satellite (if it did not succeed to establish a normal connection – approx. OPINION) should be useful, I’m sure Kreidenko. “Because it’s an experience, that’s food for thought: what did we do wrong that we have to change that the next time everything went even better,” he explained.
Kreidenko, does not believe that the satellite will be able to get to work, if it is “junk” from the very beginning. If so, the experts over a week since the launch will already have done everything in order to change the situation.
In turn, the senior scientific employee of Institute of space research Nathan eysmont told the newspaper VIEW that to predict the possibility of returning to the life of the spacecraft, if it’s a few days unaccounted for, is not zero.
There were precedents that the satellites “Wake up” even after a year of inactivity. It all depends on the specific breakdown. “The Soviet Union at the time, launched into space two small satellite jointly with Czechoslovakia. One of them managed to work in orbit for just a few seconds, then communication was lost with him. But we had hypotheses about what was the cause. It was the failure of solar panels. After that our Czech colleagues began to methodically each week to direct the antenna on this device in the hope that someday the battery will be revealed. And what do you think? Eismont calls SamSat-218D “is definitely the least important of the three running”. This, of course, a lot of trouble, especially for young and ambitious scientists, but in General, neither on national interests nor on the Russian space program, such failure shall not be affected.
