The Finnish court dismissed the Russian Vasily Popov’s request to leave the country


Petrozavodsk businessman and politician Vasily Popov will not be able to leave Finland. This decision was made by the district court of North Karelia, reports “Interfax”.

Popov asked to travel to different countries for treatment and for family to return his passport. However, the County court decided not to modify the earlier imposed ban on travel. Thus, priests are still not allowed to leave mainland Finland.

The Supreme court of Finland in February decided that there are no obstacles to extradite him to Russia. The final decision will the Minister of justice.

In Russia the businessman is accused of fraud. According to the Russian side, Popov and his wife have caused damage to the city budget of Petrozavodsk more than 10 million rubles.

In Russia it, besides business, was also engaged in political activities: head of the Karelian branch of party “the Apple”. The Russian human rights organization “memorial” has recognized Popov and his colleagues on the party “Yabloko” victims of political persecution.
