Another fragment of the meteorite that fell in Chelyabinsk region in February 2013, discovered in the course of the new expedition of the Ural scientists on April 26. In the near future, experts hope uvent still more fragments, which are larger than found today.
As the Director of the Ural geological Museum Dmitry Kleymenov, the weight of the found fragment is about 15 grams, and the diameter reaches 2.5 cm. A piece of the meteorite was discovered in the village of Baturin under Emanzhelinka during the expedition, with the participation of the staff of the geological Museum, as well as students of the Ural state mining University.
It is reported that on the site, where the search for fragments of a meteorite that was previously burned grass, which greatly increased the chances of these fragments to be detected. Their weight, according to Dmitry kleimenova, can reach 20 grams. In the future, all findings plan to keep the Museum and explore how they influenced the presence on the Ground.
Fragments of the Chelyabinsk meteorite fell to Earth on 15 February 2013. The shock wave from the explosion of a cosmic body in the atmosphere has led to the fact that in many buildings the Windows were broken. Suffered more than a thousand people, material damage amounted to nearly half a billion rubles.
For a long time after that, the meteorite, known officially as the “Chelyabinsk” was one of the most discussed space objects ever reaching the Ground.
