The main event of the evening last Sunday, which continues to be discussed today, was the simultaneous publication by a number of leading world media data investigation on offshore companies registered in the names of politicians, officials and their relatives from many countries. A significant part is dedicated to investigation and the representatives of the national authorities.
Publication was made possible thanks to the fact that more years ago unknown source was carried out by “draining” the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung documents of the Panama company-the Registrar Mossack Fonseca. She is a mediator for the registration of companies in offshore zones, and, if usually to know the name of the true beneficiary is difficult, then the logger has such data, up to scans of passports of the true owner of the legal entity.
In itself the ownership of the offshore company (i.e. the company, minimizing taxes) there is nothing criminal, but Russian officials is prohibited, and the highest officials of the country repeatedly declared requirements of deoffshorization of the domestic economy.
Paper leaked to the German journalists, was a vast archive of 11.5 million documents, 2.6 terabytes. In connection with such data and the fact that they affect many countries, it was decided to conduct international investigative journalism, one of the participants was the international consortium of investigative journalists (ICIJ).
It was his representatives and appealed to the presidential administration of the Russian Federation issues press Secretary of Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov last week called “provocative,” thus announcing the impending publication of the documents offshore.
The ICIJ representatives Monday, 2 April, fueled interest in the publication, assigning it to 9 o’clock in the evening in Moscow.
In the end, the analysed documents concerning Russia, was mentioned a number of representatives of the government and their relatives, governors, State Duma deputies, senators and persons, according to the authors, associated with the Kremlin.
While none of the Russian participants of the investigation have not commented on the publication.
Note that the publication of the international consortium of investigative touched not only Russia: they were involved and the leaders of Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and members of governments and other States, from Britain and Iceland to China and Saudi Arabia.
In the scandal were noted including FIFA.
Against this background, the government of Panama has declared its readiness to “vigorously” to cooperate in the international investigation into illegal offshore activities (country has declared a policy of “zero tolerance”), then as co-founder of the company-Registrar Mossack Fonseca Ramon Fonseca refused to recognize the authenticity of the documents, saying, however, that their publication in any way is a crime, violate the right of clients of his firm to confidentiality.Related posts:
