The Pentagon chief for nearly a year violated the rules of emailing

The head of defensive Department of the USA Ashton Carter, coming on the heels of Hillary Clinton used a personal email account for official correspondence. It lasted from February 2015, when Carter assumed the post of Minister of defense until mid-December of last year – that’s when the first reports appeared about the “private-office” emails Carter, and he stopped the practice and apologized. Then he criticized the Chairman of the Senate Committee on armed services John McCain.

In March 2016, the Agency The Associated Press and several other media outlets have requested the emails of a crankcase in accordance with the Law on freedom of information, after which the Pentagon released 1336 pages – emails and attachments, all of which, according to the Agency, are non-confidential in nature. A couple of messages provided with the stamp “For official use”, which does not imply secrecy. However, the investigation continues – it leads the Committee on oversight and reform of the state bodies of the chamber of representatives of the U.S. Congress.

American journalists Express surprise at the fact that the head of the Pentagon so long used personal account for official correspondence. In March 2015, a scandal erupted around a similar use of the personal servers Hillary Clinton while she was U.S. Secretary of state. She, apparently, more serious situation than Carter, because quite a large amount of information that had gone through her personal account, was considered secret. The investigation involved the U.S. Department of justice and included in the structure of the Ministry of justice the FBI.

Meanwhile came another scandal with the emails – this time the action takes place in the Ministry of energy. The Agency also has a privacy above the roof, because the responsibilities will include, among other things, the nuclear industry. The US Secretary of energy Ernest Moniz sent a letter to the members of the Committee on science, technology and space research of the house of representatives of the U.S. Congress. Legislators cited a report of the Office of the inspector General of the Ministry of energy, outlining widespread in the Ministry – and don’t try to suppress his leadership – the practice of using personal accounts for official correspondence. They require the Minister to 6 April provided a report of all the cases of such illegal practices in Ministry – starting from the first letter sent by the Minister to his personal email address, when he took up his post.

It is difficult to understand why senior American officials violate the ban (logical and obvious) use of personal email accounts for public matters. Although, on the other hand, there is always the temptation to hide something from the all-seeing eye of “big brother” – especially because “big brother” haven for it not punished. Even a former army General and CIA Director David Petraeus got off lightly, although he passed his mistress Bradwell Field notebooks in which she copied from the computer for top secret information. And she, being a publicist, used the data to write the biography of heroic warriors. But there, they say, was such information that the Floor would theoretically sell it to foreign scouts for a lot of money.

One American colleague named scandals relating to misuse of official information, “a series of many episodes”. There is every reason to think that the continuation of this “series”.
