“In Turkey this is the phase of political repression “


In Turkey, political repression against journalists and opposition. Turkish prosecutors requested life sentences for journalists who criticize President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Earlier it was reported that the Prosecutor of Turkey launched an investigation against the chief editor and producer of news programs of TV channel CNN Turk. The reason the criminal case was criticism during a television program on President Erdogan. Wrote about this largest Turkish newspaper Hurriyet. Arab TV channel Al Arabiya referring generally supportive of the President of Turkey, said that Turkish Prosecutor will seek life sentences for journalists – critics of Erdogan.

The biggest case against Turkish journalists in November 2015. Chief editor of the newspaper Cumhuriyet Jan Dundar and correspondent in Ankara has been arrested on charges of aiding a terrorist group and espionage against Turkey.

The real reason for political persecution against journalists have been documentaries about how the supply of weapons to the ISIL militants from Turkey. The publication has released images of Turkish trucks, carrying ammunition to the militants in Syria.

Erdogan and Gollum

In late December, the media reported that 17-year-old resident of the province of Tekirdag in northwestern Turkey arrested for insulting Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on the network Facebook. He was taken to a local jail after the court decided his arrest.

In addition, on 11 December, the Turkish journalist was arrested for failure to appear in court on the case of insulting Erdogan. Before that a Turkish court has appointed examination on the case of insulting Erdogan: the doctor Bilgin Çiftçi has posted on his page in Facebook a few photos of Erdogan and character of the trilogy of Tolkien’s “the Lord of the rings” Gollum with near identical expressions of surprise and delight on their faces. After posting these photos Çiftçi was dismissed from civil service for insulting the President, against him was initiated a criminal case in which he faces three months to two years in prison, reports the newspaper Milliyet.
