In the headquarters of NATO, check the information that Turkey, a member of the Alliance, were not allowed into their waters the group of NATO ships for the relief of refugees and the fight against smuggling. Turkish foreign Ministry denies these reports, but it seems Brussels is not inclined to trust an unpredictable ally. Germany trapped the injured party, however, forced to reckon with Turkey “partner” in the question of refugees.
NATO and Turkey must clarify the details of the operation in the Aegean sea, monitoring of the main migration route into the EU from Turkey to Greece. About TASS reported in the headquarters of NATO, commenting on media reports that Ankara refused to allow its territorial waters in the 2nd naval group of NATO.
“The Turks took money from Germany and the whole of the EU on the fight against illegal immigration, but want the freedom to conduct a flow of migrants”
The spokesperson of the Turkish foreign Ministry Tanju Bilgic stated that this information is untrue. However, as noted TASS, in Brussels did not refute the previously received message. Moreover, it is argued that the refusal was received over the weekend – reported by the Agency France Press referring to diplomatic sources.
We will remind, the decision to send the waters of the second naval group of NATO was adopted on 11 February at a meeting of defense Ministers of 28 NATO countries in Brussels. It was reported that Turkey and Greece (both countries are members of NATO) agreed to approach the Alliance to patrol the Aegean sea for the control of refugees and combating the smuggling of illegal migrants.
Ankara’s actions is not the first time an inconsistent look – suffice it to recall the behavior of the Turkish authorities after the incident with the downed Russian su-24 when it was unclear who gave the order to attack.
NATO ships were sent to the Aegean sea not only for the monitoring of migration flows between Turkey and Greece and to assist vessels in distress with migrants. However, the Turkish authorities are not enthusiastic in regard to the admission to its territory of refugees that can be rescued by NATO ships.
In uncertain area
Turkey was not only within NATO, but its Navy ship, the frigate “Barbaros” is included in the composition of the 2nd naval group of the Alliance (which, according to reports, the Turkish authorities are not allowed in their territorial waters). The flagship of this squadron is the German supply ship “Bonn”, in its submission in addition to the Turkish ship are still two frigates: the canadian “Fredericton”, and the Greek “Salamis”.
Judging by the message of the company RTBF, the Turkish authorities are motivating their position by the fact that the commander of the naval grouping of NATO, consisting of four ships – German rear Admiral jörg Klein must arrive in Ankara to “determine the zone” where she (group of ships) will be”.
