As it does not seem paradoxical, but the first nominated for “Gold mask” in nominations ballet performances in Moscow,… Opera. But Opera for all parameters not normal and even sensational. Moreover, its Director has become one of the most successful choreographers of the current chief choreographer of the Perm Opera and ballet theatre Alexei Miroshnichenko. However, the idea of this production was offered of course Teodor Currentzis, who became its musical Director and conductor.

It is about the unknown and unfinished Opera by Dmitri Shostakovich “Orango”. Her, or rather surviving the prologue to it, together with other hitherto unknown pieces by Shostakovich not so long ago found in the folder with the manuscripts in the Museum named after Glinka, the artistic Director of the Perm theatre Theodor Korontzis announced the composer’s widow Irina Shostakovich. Taking as 2nd part thoroughly forgotten written around the same time, the circus Revue “Conditionally killed”, which in the early 30’s shone and Claudia Shulzhenko, Leonid Utesov, Currentzis together with Miroshnichenko set a stunning Opera-ballet performance. Its for the “Golden mask” nominated in 5 categories at once (“best ballet”, “best conductor” (Teodor Currentzis) best work of ballet master and choreographer (Sergei Miroshnichenko), the best male and female roles (Sergey Mershin and Natalia de Froberville-Domracheva). The first part is the actual Opera-bouffe “Orange”, the second part is “Conditionally killed” was adapted into a ballet…
Thus, the “Orange” – what it actually is? The name of the main character. Crafted from orang-utan. Opera, like “heart of a Dog” Bulgakov, mocking the then fashionable idea of “hybridization” and “create new person” was commissioned by the Bolshoi theatre for the 15th anniversary of the October revolution, but remained not implemented in a rapidly changing political realities of the time.
Easy and short (only 35 minutes) it is equipped with brilliant stylized Alexey Miroshnichenko dancing in the spirit parades of athletes 30-ies, which in this case involves not only artists of the ballet troupe, but it’s hilarious pressive, monkey-jumping, based on front feet and walks wheel the performer of the role of Orango baritone Paul Reiman.
Ballet “Conditionally killed” despite famously developed by Miroshnichenko and twisted in the manner of the time the libretto, boring. Shostakovich wrote this review as a gambling debt, losing three sheets to the Director of the Music hall Mikhail Paudo and dancing in it put such a choreographic master, Fyodor Lopukhov. But not that dance – even the plot was not preserved. The only thing left, except music – so are the names of the existing characters. So Miroshnichenko had to create this ballet is almost over.
The action takes place on the background of the doctrines of the SOCIETY of gas on defense… So peaceful life strolling through the Park workers here to interrupt the signal air alert: the citizens declare a “conditionally killed” and “wounded”, and wearing the masks of accidents by nurses placed them on stretchers and carried away in the air lock. Despite the fact that this ballet seems more successful experiments carried out in the same genre (and also with music by Shostakovich) Bolshoi theatre direct predecessor Miroshnichenko Alexei Ratmansky (ballet “the Bolt”), “Conditionally killed” still something not quite grown together. Costumes which used prints based on jivopisnaya avant-garde artist Pavel Filonov (“Orange”) or pieces of tissue 30-ies depicting the achievements of the Soviet Republic – tractors, tanks, airplanes (“Conditionally killed”) successfully applied to play art Director Andrey Voitenko and costume designer Tatiana Noginova. This addictive game in early Soviet avant-garde, seems to have been to attract the attention of theatre experts first and foremost. But alas… These works were not recorded in the relevant zolotonosnykh nominations.
