The prototype of a “living and breathing” biological supercomputer introduced an international group of scientists from Holland, Germany, Sweden and the USA. It will get energy approximately by the same principle, that of living beings when they breathe.
Developers have reported that their supercomputer is able to quickly and accurately process the information because he, like “ordinary” supercomputers, using parallel computing technology. But biocomputers will be three major differences: they will be much smaller (the size of the prototype is only half an inch), will require less energy, and to draw this energy from adenosine triphosphate protein — the same protein nourishes and living cells.
Computing biological supercomputer produces due to the movement of molecules of specific proteins. The computer, it is not heated during operation due to the fact that its functioning is ensured by the so-called biological agents.
Having the prototype and the mathematical model of a biological supercomputer, scientists plan to continue their work in the future to represent new instances of the miniature heavy-duty semi-living mechanisms. Also in the plans of the developers is to create a hybrid computing system, combining biological and “classical” supercomputers.
