Vice-Premier of the Russian government Dmitry Rogozin stated that Russia has no alternatives of the Northern sea route. According to officials, in the conditions of aggravation of relations with Turkey to count on another exit to the World ocean.

Dmitry Rogozin during a “government hour” in the Federation Council made a report on measures for safeguarding national security of the Russian Federation in the Arctic zone. The Deputy Minister admitted that strained relations with Turkey make the Northern sea route no alternative access to the World ocean.
“With the prevailing situation on the Black sea, in the conditions of aggravation of relations with Turkey, Russia needed reliable, free and most importantly, year-round access to the big water. In this aspect, alternatives of the Northern sea route, in my opinion, does not exist”, – TASS quoted Rogozin.
The politician also said that in 2016, work will begin on creating a family of light multipurpose aircraft for the Arctic. Start of delivery is scheduled for 2020 year.
On the eve of the NATO Supreme allied commander in Europe, us General Philip Breedlove said that the U.S. is studying the possibility of containment of Russia in the Arctic. “Claims of Russia do not directly affect US but they affect three of our allies,” the General said at the hearings in Congress. Breedlove did not specify how it plans to contain Russia, but has noticed that the USA “have to do”, and Russian actions in the Arctic “cause concern”.
In recent years Russia has begun active economic development of its Northern territories, including hydrocarbon production. In addition, the development of the Northern sea route which could become an alternative to traditional routes from Europe to Asia, notes RIA Novosti.
