Russian physicists representing Chelyabinsk state University, said that during the examination of the meteorite “Chelyabinsk” they discovered an unusual carbon crystal. Perhaps he is a rare kind of a diamond, experts say.
Soon discovery is planned to extract from the meteorite and carefully examined. Within a month physicists plan to present the results. It is not known when the crystal formed in the open space or entry of a meteorite into the atmosphere.
Fragments of the Chelyabinsk meteorite fell to the Ground three years ago, on 15 February 2013. The shock wave from the explosion of a cosmic body in the atmosphere has resulted in many buildings were shattered glass. Hit 1 613 people, and material damage amounted to nearly half a billion rubles. After this event significantly increased the interest of scientists to the problems of protection from the threat of meteor.
Since then, the meteorite, officially named “Chelyabinsk” became, perhaps, one of the most actively discussed by space objects ever reaching the Ground. His pieces were shown at exhibitions in different cities of Russia and the world, and some of the asteroids that for the foreseeable future will come close to the Earth, in popular scientific texts for illustration, compare in size with Chelyabinsk. Many people, quite far from a science, tend to see the fall of the meteorite “Chelyabinsk” mystical sense, although specialists such version, by itself, uninteresting.
The largest fragment of the meteorite weighs more than 500 pounds. As specialists declare, this is the largest meteorite body on the continent of Eurasia-type chondrite.
